There is no such thing as knowing enough chords! Every musician has there ideal on what a song is suppose to sound like, and there is nothing wrong with that but just because somebody ant playing your style of music it dose not mean they don,t have the right to jam, I know its your passion and you put your heart and soul into it, and of course there is that human being that thinks there the only one who knows a thing or two about music, Its easy to be music critic when all your music is in the basement yet to be released but you might wont to calm down and jam.My concept of a good musician is one who can play anything anytime and any were

The Christian Song Writer

I,m sure I am not the only Christian song writer who had to face the age old conflict, do I just write and perform Gospel music? or can I do secular music as well and not get kicked out the church? First of all God dose know your heart and all gifts do come from God, and we should create Gospel music and music that has a good message, Ill be the first to say that yes I have wrote lyrics that I might have been better off not writing and I can say at the moment that,s how I was feeling or I just thought it would be a cool song, and I did not mean any harm.I don,t feel that you need to use bad words in your music to make a point. From my point of view I can only create a song at this point in my life that will tell a story in a classy way and one of my plans for 2010 is to add more Gospel music to my Body of works because my gift did come from God and he gets the glory.

Its time for me to start playing the music that I fell in love with and that is Jazz and Blues, thats the music that dose it for me because it gives me the most freedom on the Guitar, but it also means that some of the songs in my vault will have to be overhauled into a blues sound ! but thats ok.

No matter what you write, don,t throw it away!
you might find a few verses in one song ,that go better
with another song, or a verse you can build on in
one song that might have ran into a road block.
remember to practice with some type of
recording to device , u never know were the next
song will come from.
Sight Reading or Playing by Ear ?

I started backwards when it comes to the subject of Music Theory even though I did take keyboards in High School, didn’t really do to well I had my own version of Mary Had little Lamb! (lol) I use to play the vocal part of songs on the guitar when I was young. That’s how I learned to play by ear, it might have trained me to do other things as well. Since learning how to play music is about training your mind and body, your finger have to get used to moving up and down a fret board. It is important for those who are formally trained to learn how to play by ear, you might be creating out the box, what you gonna do ? put the world on pause until somebody writes it down for you, and it is important to learn how to sight read, at least well enough were you can communicate your Ideals to others and yes there are lots away to get around all of this with all the new soft ware they got, but the goal is to become a great Musician and in the long run it will help u and not hurt u, remember if you can hum it you can play it and everybody who plays by ear should invest in a good music theory book,I love studying music theory, so I can become a better musician. The question is not do you practice, but what do u practice, you can’t go wrong practicing sight reading and playing by ear.
